The Holy Spirit is a "Person": It is important to make clear that the Holy Spirit is not a force, or a thing, or a power he is a "person". He is not an impersonal force like magnetism or gravity, he is a real person. In the Bible he is always "he", never "it" he sanctifies us, he teaches us, guide us, instructs us, he illuminates us, he is the helper, the consoler, the educator (Jn.14:26, 16-17, 15:26, 16:7-8, 12-14). The Spirit has intellect, emotions, and will, and he acts as we would expect of someone who is not just a force, but a real person. - He speaks: "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches" (Rev.2:7). "" The Holy Spirit said: Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them" (Rom.8:26). - He intercedes and helps: "And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words" (Rom.8:26). - He leads: "And the spirit said to Philip, Go up and join his chariot" (Act.8:29). "for all who are lead by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God" (Rom.8:14). - He commands: "having been forgiven by the Spirit and the Spirit of Jesus did not permit it" (Act.16:6,7). - He appoints: "The Holy Spirit has made you overseers to shepherd the church of God" (Act.20:28).
- The 7 Sins against the Spirit, are also against a person, not a force: 1- He can be lied: Read the story of Ananias in Act.5:3,4. 2- He can be insulted: "how much severer punishment do you think he will deserve he who has insulted the Spirit of grace?" (Heb.10:29). 3- He can be blasphemed, in Mt.12:24-32, Lk.12:10, Mk.3:29: The unforgivable sin, the sin against the love of God, attributing his deeds to Satan, the obstinate unrepentant who can't believe, not even think in the glorious infinite mercy of God, much bigger that all your sins, like the ocean compared with a drop of water, the idiotic sin of Judas!. 4- Grieve or provoke the holy Spirit: "Do not sadden the Holy Spirit of God what you were marked with (Eph.4:30, Is.63:10). 5- Quench the Spirit: "Do not quench the Spirit, do not despise the prophet's warnings" (1Thes.5:19). 6- Resist the Spirit: Act.7:51, Rev.22:17. 7- No faith in the Holy Spirit (Jn.3:6, 14:26, 15:26, 16:7-15).
Throughout the Bible it is clear that the Holy Spirit is God Himself. The attributes given to the Spirit are those of God Himself: - He is eternal: "the eternal spirit" (Heb.9:14). There never was a time when he was not. - He is all-powerful: "The Holy Spirit the power of the Most High" (Lk.1:35). - He is everywhere present (omnipresent) at the same time: "Where can I go from your Spirit? Or where can I fly from your presence? (Ps.139:7). - He is all-knowing (omniscient): "For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man, which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God" 1Cor.2:10-11). - The Holy Spirit is called God: In Acts 5:3-4: "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit? you have not lied to men, but to God". "The Lord who is the Spirit" (2Cor.3:18). - He is the Creator: See The Works of the Holy Spirit and The Holy Trinity
